The Jefferson Ladies Varsity Track Team concluded their regular season with a 72-17 record last night at the Northeast 8 Conference Meet hosted by Lakeview High School. In doing so, thrower Claire Allen took first place and set a new school record in the shot put with a toss of 38′ 1″.
Her throwing teammate, Leora Marunowski also scored first place points in the discus and took third place in the shot put as well.
Morgan Smith continues to jump higher in the pole vault and took first place with success at 8′ 8″. Mo also scored points in the long jump and 4×100 relays.
The other Falcon athlete to score first place was Tracy Squatrito in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.96. Her running teammate, Taylor Skinner, happened to finish second in the same event with a 1:02.19.
Hurdler Maddie Pierce lead the team in scoring points and runner Allison Wintz continued to dominate the distance events.
The Lady Falcons will begin their post season at the District Meet also hosted at Lakeview High on Thursday, May 16 for preliminaries…Saturday, May 18 for finals. Athletes need to finish in the top 4 places in order to move on to the Regional Meet a week later at Austintown Fitch. Both girls and boys teams hope to get a number of athletes to advance all the way to Jesse Owens Stadium for the State Track Meet in Columbus. Good Luck to all!
