The Jefferson Wrestling Team wrestled well overall at Cardinal this past Saturday. Their record as a team for the day was 2-3.
Leading the way for the Falcons was Senior Colt Edgar. He was 5-0 on the day with 4 pins. Junior Brent Dietrich was right behind him going 4-1 with 2 pins. Lucas Woodworth (Senior) was 3-2 on the day with 3 pins as well.
The Falcons started off the day against South Range, one of the most complete teams in our Region, and struggled, giving up 36 points on forfeits before the match started. Our Falcons fared better against Pymatuning Valley, where match ups where prioritized by both coaches to limit forfeits. Jefferson won 7 out of the 9 matches wrestled. The Mayfield matchup was very similar to the South Range dual. Against Cardinal, the team had a couple winnable matches go the other way. This was a very winnable dual, and a great learning experience. Finally the Falcons defeated NDCL 30-21.
Every single varsity wrestled earned at least one victory throughout the day. Senior Evan Smock debuted this season with 2 wins (1 pin). Freshman Braden Dietrich earned his first career pins at the varsity level, notching 2! Mason Pawlowski (Sophomore) earned 2 victories. Wade Woodworth went 1-0 in varsity action in 1-0 in Junior Varsity action. Also earning a win for Jefferson was Freshman Ricky Sias, Sophomores Blaze Blankenship and Reed Edgar (Junior Varsity), and Junior Cooper Cole (Junior Varsity).
The Wrestling team will be back in action Saturday at Pymatuning Valley for rematches against PV and Cardinal.
