Boys Varsity Soccer · Jefferson Soccer Victorious Against Campbell

The Boys Varsity Soccer team won their first game of the year Tuesday night against Campbell Memorial High School. It was a spirited competition and the Falcons would not be denied. Right from the start it was clear to see that the boys wanted this game and were willing to fight to get it. The first goal came off the foot of Raffaele Giancola in the eighth minute. It was a beautiful pass from the midfield that set the whole play up. Giancola then dodged the oncoming goalkeeper as he cooly placed the ball in the back of the net. The rest of the first half was dominated by Jefferson as they controlled the ball and continued attacking, but the half would yield no more goals.

The team knew that Campbell would be fighting for the equalizer in the second half and so that it was imperative to strike again and do it quickly. That strike came in the second minute of the second half off the left foot of Jake Stimson.

Campbell would fight back however as they caught the Falcons on a counter attack and scored with a well placed shot into the far right corner. What looked like was going to be a comfortable win had just turned into a fight to the end.

With about fifteen minutes remaining, Christian Fettig made a determined run up the left flank, turned the corner into the box, and extended the Falcon lead back to two goals with a well struck left footed shot into the right corner of the net.

The best play of the night came with eight minutes left on the clock as midfielders Julian LaVallee and Fettig combined some beautiful passing to find the right attacking midfielder, Desten Alves, streaking up the right sideline. Alves beat one defender and with the goalkeeper coming out, slipped the ball back to the middle where Giancola was waiting to just walk the ball into the net for his second and the teams fourth goal of the night.

With a three goal advantage, Coach Josh Wood took the opportunity to get the younger players into the game and give the starters a well deserved break. The players were greeted with a warm applause of support and appreciation from the awesome fan base who had been cheering them on all night.

The final score was 4-1, which moved the Falcons to a 1-2 record on the year and 1-0 record in the All American Conference. The Falcons play again Thursday evening away at Champion High School. Game time is set at 7:00 pm. The next home match will be 7:00 pm on Tuesday night, October 8th, against Newton Falls.
